Jay Synth of Omina Laboratories Announces Return of the 916 Alliance

Sacramento, CA, May 22, 2008 – Jae Synth of Omina Laboratories, based out of a Broadway store front in Sacramento, CA announces the return of the historic 916 Alliance that began in the ‘90s to ensure hip-hop unity within the region.

Sacramento brings together the hip-hop community to fight against violence, establish unity and maintain social awareness. The 916 Alliance, presented by Jae Synth is a peace treaty to educate youth to make better decisions when faced with violent situations.

The 916 Alliance is to return on the basis of violence this past year with the decease of Sean “Roady” Rodriguez who was shot along with his infant son, Sean Jr., Johnny Cash [J. Cash] who passed from causes unknown and Casious Johnson who has been laid to rest due to health related issues.

“My dude Cash passed away, thank God it wasn’t from violence but we thought about all the other people that passed away [as well],” says Synth.

Many of Sacramento’s best emcees and singers are recorded on the official 916 Alliance track that will be played at events. The song features a diverse group of artists running the spectrum from gangsta-rap to backpack-rap as well as many ethnicities and religious backgrounds, totaling over 30 artists on a single four-minute and 30-second track.

“This has never been done in Sacramento history,” says Synth, “This is the biggest cause in Sacramento’s history. Everyone agrees that violence needs to stop, right?”

Jae Synth has worked with several emcees, artists, DJs and producers such as Snoop Dogg, T.I., Young Buck, Juvenille, E-40, Doey Rock, Righteous Movement, Dj Epik, The Royalle Family and many more. Synth has also been interviewed by Prosper Magazine, UBO Magazine, OZONE Magazine, The Legend, WestUp, Murder Dogg, Submerge, X-Factor Magazine, 916 Magazine and sister magazines 510 and 209.
Synth goes beyond just magazine and e-zine write-ups as he has been featured on local hip-hop stations with his produced beat, “Dez it Eazy” featuring Clyde Carson from the Bay Area. His song,

“So Sac with it” performed by Doey Rock, Skurge of Righteous Movement and others is booming over and over at Arco Arena for the Kings.

“[Synth is the] Sacramento King of Beats,” says Skurge of Righteous Movement.
Supporters of the 916 Alliance idea are Mayor Heather Fargo, Mayor Candidate Kevin Johnson, UBO Magazine, Midtown Grid, Omina Laboratories and several local artists, producers, engineers, DJs and business owners.

Artists that are featured on the 916 Alliance song are HUB Award winner Doey Rock, Sumpthin’ Terrible, Marvalous, SAMMIE nominated Righteous Movement, Mahtie Bush of SacHatesHipHop.com Movement, Bueno, J. Gib, Shoat Stop of 103.5 KBMB DJ and many more.

Summer ’08 will mark the takeover of the 916 Alliance as performers, producers, DJs and Sacramento neighbors affected by violence will speak to the community. Currently, Synth has arranged Doey Rock to perform at an undisclosed place on June 7 for a “Stop the Violence” musical event.

To deter violence the 916 Alliance will speak at several local high schools, colleges and universities, churches, local festivals and perhaps the State Capital as support rolls in. Synth believes it is important to create this movement so that the youth are educated in making wise decisions when they are not in the best of situations.

“I wish I didn’t have to make this song because it would mean [that] my friends are still alive,” says Synth, “This is a movement. We will have a video and DVD. [The violence] needs to stop.”

Community involvement is the only way that this movement will move forward. Synth is looking for support from local organizations such as educational facilities, non-profits, community facilitators, community activists and businesses that support the 916 Alliance.

For additional information or to get involved in any way, please contact Editor-In-Chief and Assigned Public Relation Officer, Aaris A. Schroeder of UBO Magazine and P.R. New York-Sacramento Arts Collaboration Unveiled to Public on Jan.12

Sacramento, California, January 3, 2007- If you walk into the gallery of Sol Collective on Saturday, January 12th, you will realize that something extraordinary is happening in Sacramento. Sharp colors of paint dancing up ceilings and down walls make up the city’s newest exhibition: Life, Death & Rebirth. Over 15 artists have come together to co-create this unique opportunity to witness the collective voice of Sacramento and New York activism through art. The exhibit features an awesome mural display that poetically illustrates our journey through life, death and rebirth. Scenes include the natural world, urban landscapes, headless horsemen, a sweeping tree of life, strong women warriors and more!

The leadership and artistic vision behind this new exhibition is from Brooklyn-based artist, Shaun Turner, who recently returned to his hometown of Sacramento to spark learning and creative exchange between his artist group in New York, the Trust Your Struggle Collective, and that of Sacramento’s Sol Collective. His philosophy is one that is rooted in the belief that the final outcome of any collaborative piece of work is more than the sum of its parts. “I wanted to do this collaboration at Sol Collective because Estella and everyone at Sol Collective has put in so much effort to keep this venue open so people like myself can have and outlet to do art,” says Shaun Turner. “I invited a lot of talented people to come out who have helped and inspired me over the years to keep pushing my own art. There are so many kids I wish I could have invited but this is only the beginning. It is so hard to get storeowners to let us paint. There are so many gifted artists in Sacramento and we are hungry to paint more of Sac’s blank walls with new life and inspiration.” Art collectives like Trust Your Struggle and Sol Collective believe that true empowerment comes from bringing the right people together to listen, create and express themselves.

The exhibit will host a special celebration and free public viewing one night only: January 12 from 6pm to midnight at the Sol Collective Art, Culture and Education Center located on 2010 Del Paso Blvd. Expect to be welcomed with great music and friendly people. “Sol Collective continues to move forward,” says Estella Sanchez of the Sol Collective, “we are beginning to see real interest from a diverse group of people who have been thirsty to experience something new and interesting in Sacramento.”

True Emcee BBQ: UBO Magazine Hosts Networking Parties to Bring Together Sacramento's Unique Hip-Hop Scene, Just Bring Your Own Beer, Meat and Veggies

Sacramento, CA, June 23, 2007- UBO Magazine will be working hand-in-hand, literally with many of Sacramento, Roseville, Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Davis and surrounding area's hip-hop collectives, artists, labels and producers to create Sacramento Chamber of Commerce of Hip-Hop. The book will more than likely, according to UBO Magazine's Founder and Editor-In-Chief, Aaris A. Schroeder, be entitled, "Sacramento Chamber of Commerce: Hip-Hop Edition, Volume I."

The idea is simple. On a first come, first served basis, an emcee, hip-hop group or similar tasting music will contact UBO Magazine via e-mail or phone to arrange a BBQ that will take place at UBO Magazine home-headquarters. That person will then invite two-three other emcees or groups over to network, share ideas, exchange information and contacts in the local media that will assist other artists to improve their music through public relations, promotions, sound, graphic design and other services while everyone is relaxing to a nice summer night with BBQ and beer.

The only request that Schroeder asks is that you bring something to write on, your address/contact books, calendars, something to grill; be it meat or veggies and your own six-pack.

"There has been a lot of talk, recently about negative things being said about hip-hop, in general in Sacramento that needs to be squelched. I think the best way to do this is over a fire with networking to build us back up and beer to bring us together as a strong, unique collective," says Schroeder.

There is no actual date for the release of "Sacramento Chamber of Commerce: Hip-Hop Edition, Volume I," until UBO Magazine can meet and network with each emcee and group in Sacramento.

This idea will then prove to launch various other promotional ideas for the Sacramento hip-hop scene such as festivals, workshops, live music, weekly chamber meetings and other various networking and fun events centered around living a hip-hop lifestyle, according to Schroeder.

For additional information about True Emcee BBQs and when you can plan yours with UBO Magazine, contact Schroeder at ubomag@gmail.com or (916) 548-8391 or visit http://www.myspace.com/ubomagazine.

If you need assistance in creating a press kit to submit or would like more information about public relation information please contact Giselle Peck of UBO P.R. Services at gsllpeck@yahoo.com or (916) 501-6368.

We would like to thank Brian Fischer of http://www.midtowngrid.com who will be watching over the idea and helping to promote it through his own business. Midtown Grid is an online local directory for local, independent businesses in the Downtown Sacramento area. You can find his postcards in almost all of the midtown businesses, offering up postcards in both Eat The Grid and Shop The Grid.

UBO Magazine: The Hard Copy

UBO Magazine
The Hard Copy

By Aaris A. Schroeder
Editor-in-Chief

If promoting artists through media is in UBO Magazine's best interest and the website that is in the works is still not progressing to the standards of the artists promoted, what is the next best thing to accomplish as a media source?

UBO Magazine has decided as of May 2007 to officially go hardcopy. The decision wasn't one that was long thought over since this has been the origonal goal. In the beginning of UBO Magazine, the thought was to attract potential businesses to support independent artists through advertising in order to collect enough funds to push forward with a hardcopy magazine.

That was in 2001. It is now 2007 and there is no hardcopy, although UBO Magazine has become widly experienced in the interviewing processes, collected many photographers and staffwriters along with other various staff and affiliates and has a lot of say when it comes to media in the underground hip-hop community in Sacramento, CA.

UBO Magazine isn't talking too much but word has it that there is a print company based out of Napa Valley that will be working hand in hand with the magazine to create a mini-magazine, a sort of mock-up magazine to give music and art enthusiasts an idea of what UBO is all about.

The more support that is offered to UBO Magazine through the sponsorship campaign that is currently running the better. More information can be found at http://www.myspace.com/ubomagazine and businesses may contact UBO Magazine at ubomag@gmail.com.

2007 In Review: UBO Magazine

Editorial

2007 In Review: UBO Magazine

By Aaris A. Schroeder
Editor-In-Chief
May 19, 2007

I recently created an account with http://www.blogger.com due to personal issues concerning web designers, becoming overwhelmed with UBO assignments as well as taking on odd-jobs and adding on two important staffers, my Assistant Co-Op P.R. Director, Giselle Peck who doubles as a collage artist, college student and full-time mommy and Promotions and Public Relations Intern Assistant, Dominique Brun, full-time music lover and student as well as model enthusiast.

Let me tell you first, everything that I have been up to and then I will be able to go into detail all of the wonderful things that UBO Magazine and P.R. Services have been up to the last few months.

Since the beginning of '07, I have taken on a new serving position at a corporate restaurant which actually did pretty well and turned out to be semi-floppy with hours and tables per hour so I had to recently take on a second serving position but luckily I am being trained in the bar at this point.

I also took on the position of Sales, Promotions and Street Teaming for Midtown Grid, a Sacramento, CA based website; http://www.midtowngrid.com that utilizes local businesses in the 'Midtown' area by means of advertising everything they are about and having high-hits on search engines such as Google, Excite, Yahoo!, etc. They also have these cool postcards for local restaurants called, "Eat The Grid" and for shops and boutiques, "Shop The Grid" so that locals, visiting Sacramentians and tourists can locate specialty businesses to make their day.

Imagine waking up in downtown Sacramento and being able to cruise down to a local coffee shop like, Butch & Nellies on I St. and 19th, then shop the cute shops down on J St. near the freeway then walk over to a small restaurant called, Tres Hermanas or Zocalos both located in the 'Midtown' region for dinner and drinks.

I am also taking on two UBO 'side businesses,' as I like to call them. UBO P.R. Services and UBO Promotions. UBO P.R. Services assists artists, whether they are a music label, bands/solo artists/groups, etc, urban artists, business owners, designers, etc by creating press kits, press releases, biographies, one-sheets and contacting media sources, radio stations, venues, etc to get the word out about their artistry.

UBO Promotions just started about three weeks ago. We will be booking shows. I want to start slowly and I have picked the perfect thing to do to get my foot in the door. UBO Promotions and 3rd Eye Collective; who started Artistic Insomnia [A.I.] Live will be working hand in hand to create live spoken word and poetry shows with a sidedish in comedy relief at the fun, local midtown coffee shop mentioned above, Butch & Nellies. This place is truely a home away from home, something like an oasis of sorts. UBO Magazine will work on P.R. and Promotions and 3rd Eye Collective will be booking and directing the event.

Butch & Nellies offers pastries, cookies, gelato, panini sandwiches, specialty cakes and coffees as well as teas and other fresh, cool beverages to de-steam yourself and comfort your tummy. There is a lot of seating in this coffee spot and room, offering UBO and 3rd Eye Collective live spoken word and comedy, knowingly bringing in a full house.

First place prize will be cash, second prize will be a gift certificate and third prize will be a gift from Butch & Nellies. We want everyone in Sacramento, especially local downtown people to be a part of this wonderful event, so let's pack the house!

On to other news, UBO Magazine has been working the last year and couple of months to bring an online e-zine to life offering monthly features, album and show reviews along with specials within the four corners of hip-hop which include our DJ Booth, Urban Art section, Poetry section and our Other Reviews section bringing in product reviews for books/videos, designers, candy, skateboard designers, shoe and other accessory designers, fragrances/scents, energy/soda/juice drinks, beer/wine reviews and so much more.

The magazine will offer so much more than other local magazines and still hold true to journalist ethics and writing standards along with keeping it real on the independent media source level. If we are working with independent and up and coming artists then we should allow our model of business to stay at that same level.

A lot of local media across the nation may begin the way UBO has started but have visions of becoming bigger and then taking on larger acts, etc. UBO Magazine will grow with the artists and move ahead with the clients that we serve. This is our ethical duty and therefore everyone who is planted in UBO Magazine whether they are an interviewee, advertiser, someone we review or network with we will move ahead with our sources and affiliates, it is only natural. We are here to promote artists not step on what they are about. This is how collectives are born and how they, together move forward as a positive, conscious group of artists with differing local responsibilities.

Currently we are working on a website design which will be created by RoX GrafiX from Southern CA. She created the current website that is up. So if you like that look, then get ready for our new 'cool' look which will utilize our MySpace's page, http://www.myspace.com/ubomagazine and the uniqueness of RoX GrafiX into one.

UBO Magazine will serve the Sacramento, CA region and Northern, CA areas. We choose to bring in artists from other areas of the USA along with artists from all over the world that Nor-Cal locals would love to hear, based on artists they already are listening to and are similar to local artists in style and art.
